Character Information:

Name: Jack Vezalius

Canon: Pandora Hearts.

Canon point: During the massacre of Sablier. Technically this event takes place before the start of the series.

Age:looks to be 23

Appearance: His default attire is under this link

Despite his noble status, Jack is a very friendly young man. He is always with a smile and will flirt and strike up a conversation with any lady he would come across. Men can get his interest though he will always approach a beautiful lady even if his advances may end in a slap to the face. He doesn't quit easily. He has a very jovial air about him and some may mistake it for naivety or complete foolishness. That is of course exactly what he wants.

Background: Jack's life did not have an all too remarkable start in life. He was born as a bastard son in the Vezalius house. His mother was so obsessed with his father that they eventually fell into poverty and Jack himself ended up as just another street urchin meant to be used by the nobility and then simply cast back out in an alley way. One cold winter day as he sat huddled against a wall shivering from the cold, a girl walked up to him and told him he would catch a cold if he stayed there like that. When asked for a name, Jack answered with only his first name to which the girl commented that it was a boring name. The girl then told him her name was Lacie. She then went on a tirade, telling him how she had run away from her house and would not go back until a certain person would apologize. Jack couldn't understand how or why this girl had just decided to tell him her story like this. In fact Lacie didn't even give him a choice in the matter. Eventually Jack mumbled that he didn't really care.

That got to her and asked him why he said that and why he didn't question why she was dressed in a summer dress in the middle of winter. Jack did notice that but didn't get to say anything as Lacie decided to help herself to the warmth the dirty blanket Jack had could offer. As she giggled and enjoyed the filthy yet warm shelter of the blanket, Jack asked what was wrong with her. Lacie smirked meaningfully and pointed out that now Jack was interested in her. Jack felt captivated by her red eyes, feeling as if they would pull him in completely. Just as hunger knocked him into unconsciousness, the girl pointed out he was not afraid of the Child of Misfortune. That was in fact a legend saying that all children born with red eyes would call to them great misfortune. Jack didn't know that at the time but even after he learned about it he didn't pay it any mind.

When he next woke he was greeted by Lacie's smiling face. The first girl to ever truly look him in the eye instead of looking down on him. She then revealed she had gone and stolen food for him while he was passed out. Jack simply could not comprehend just who the girl was. She had also brought back a pair of scissors and started to give him a hair cut. Suddenly she asked Jack if he was a member of the Vezalius family. She had taken notice of the medallion tied to Jack's wrist and recognized the emblem. Jack explained that his mother told him he was the son of a noble in the Vezalius house. The girl quickly figured out what that meant much to Jack's chagrin. He went on to explain how his mother had lost her mind waiting for his father to recognize her and his son. Lacie asked him if he hated his father. Jack answered that he did not hate just his father but everyone else as well. Still it didn't matter to him anymore since he had lost everything.

That didn't seem to sit well with the girl who suddenly takes a snip out of Jack's ear. She then commented how Jack's face is cute when twisted in pain. The teasing has Jack's face lighting up in a blush and the girl says that embarrassment suited Jack as well. She then went on to say how it wasn't true that he had lost everything. He had simply lost his will to live. Lacie continued that train of thoughts saying that if he was hungry he should eat and that if he didn't have money he should steal. She then said that Jack had good looks and that he could sell his body if he wanted to. Jack was fiercely opposed to this saying that being a whore is a dirty job. Lacie was unphased by that argument. She told Jack that if he accepted everything he was told without questioning it, he would lose his ability to think. She despised common sense since she had seen the world from all of the angles. The cruel, ridiculous and yet beautiful world.

The two spent the rest of the day wandering the streets as Lacie hummed a song Jack had never heard. The fairytale came to an abrupt end when a couple of stupid nobles cornered them and took Lacie intending to sell her because of those red eyes since kids with them would fetch a good price. Lacie put a quick end to that as Jack lay on the ground beaten and powerless. He could only look on as the girl brutally murdered the two attackers, singing and laughing in the middle of the blood rain. Her display of power did draw attention however and the Baskerville descended upon them scolding Lacie for running away and summoning her Chain in the open. One of them then said Oswald had apologized.

That seemed to be to her liking and she said her goodbye to Jack. She embraced him and told Jack to remember the name Baskerville and to come looking for her. At the end, Lacie gave him one of her earrings. Jack was left behind in the forest and when he finally had the strength to move he realized he wanted to see her again no matter what. Following her mentality, he resorted to theft and using his body to gain power and social standing. Soon enough he was the talk of any party, known as the promising young gentleman of the Vezalius house.

Eight whole years later, Jack played the part of a musician in order to get inside one of the parties hosted in the Baskerville mansion. When he finally spotted Lacie, Jack discarded his instrument and hugged the now young woman telling her openly how he had been looking for her for the past years. He didn't care about the commotion he had just caused. Before he could say anything else, Jack was knocked out by one of the Baskerville people. When he came to, Jack found himself facing the head of the Baskerville clan none other than Glen Baskerville himself. Even though he had literally stepped into the lions den, Jack still asked where Lacie was.

When threatened that his life was very much in danger simply because of intruding as he did, Jack asked to be allowed to see Lacie before they would kill him. Glen told Jack that Lacie was a fickle girl and that whatever promise they might have shared it was not meant to be taken seriously. Jack said he knew that and that Lacie would probably not remember him either. Still he said he didn't care. He admired how free spirited she was and how nothing could tie her down. In all honesty he was happy she was still the same. This earns Glen's interest and he asks how come he'd had never heard of such a peculiar person in the Vezalius family. A servant then explained how Jack had been only recently allowed to be seen and that he was a illegitimate son.

Glen introduced the servant in question, to Jack. His name was Oswald and he also happened to be Lacie's brother.

Jack asked if they had met at a party by any chance. Oswald answered that they had not and that it was merely his job to keep a watch on anyone of importance. Glen was surprised to hear how Oswald was interested in another person like this. Oswald said the reason was that he had been wondering something ever since he had first seen Jack. The question was simple enough. Why did Jack make his skin crawl. After a bout of laughter at how blunt the stoic servant had been, Glen asked him to elaborate on why he felt this way about Jack.

Oswald explained that Jack felt like water. A stretch of water that was so silent even fish would avoid it and that when a person would look into it the only thing they would see is their own reflection. That masked his true nature and even though Jack was right in front of him, he could not shake the uncomfortable feeling that no one was actually there.

His description was so disturbingly accurate that Jack had a knee jerk reaction and threw a glass of water at Oswald's face. Lacie slipped in and dragged Jack away as Glen laughed at what had just happened.

Once far enough into the forest on the mansion grounds, Lacie asked Jack if he was feeling better. She then revealed that she did in fact remember Jack saying how he had changed yet that he was still her cute little Jack.

Jack started to tear up and confessed how he had learned so much and that he had wanted to see her again so badly. He thought that she would have praised even someone like him.

Time passed and Jack had to leave for the day. Lacie asked Jack what he would do from that point onward. Jack said he didn't know yet and that he would most likely continue his life as a scion of the Vezalius. He still couldn't believe though that he had managed to meed with Lacie again feeling like it was almost like a dream.

Just then Glen arrived and suggested Jack should visit them again. He handed Jack a slip of paper with instructions for a secret pathway to the mansion. After leaving the Baskerville estate, Jack met with his apparent sponsor, none other than Miranda Barma herself. Jack informed her that he had found the man she told him about. Miranda was overjoyed by the news and once again reminded Jack that he owed her for all of those times she had helped him. Jack didn't show anything but cold indifference as she gushed and ranted how she wanted Oswald or to be more precise, his head.

Four months later, Oswald caught Jack as he crawled his way out of a bush after following the secret path Glen had shared with him. Jack asked Oswald if he knew where he could find Lacie. Oswald resigned himself with a sigh and helped Jack up before leading him towards the tower where Lacie lived. As they walked through the garden, Jack asked if something was wrong since Oswald seemed more stern than usual. Oswald tried to fix that by pulling at his expression but it didn't work. An air of awkwardness settled over the two until they finally reached the tower. There, Oswald asked Jack if that was all he wanted to know. He asked Jack why he never asked why the tower was built so far away from the mansion or why Lacie had to live there or what the Baskerville truly are. Jack was surrounded by mysteries and secrets and yet he asked no questions. The reason was that Jack was afraid that if he did ask, Lacie would vanish from his sight once more. After all she was the only thing tying Jack Vezalius to the world.

Later that evening, Lacie tells Jack there would be a ceremony soon. A very important ceremony. But what Jack didn't know was that Lacie gave him the wrong date when he asked so that he would be too late to intervene.

One week later Jack arrived at the estate intending to participate in the ceremony. Instead, Oswald revealed that it had been a lie and that Lacie was dead. Not only that but he also revealed that he was the one who killed her. He then handed Jack the other earing.

The news shocked Jack into a complete stupor. For an entire month Jack was stuck in a complete daze. He remembered nothing after hearing the news about Lacie's death. Then one day, Glen dropped by for a visit. In fact he was no longer Glen as he had passed that title to Oswald on the day of Lacie's death. Instead he told Jack to call him by his old name, Revis. The old man voiced his disappointment at how easily Jack had accepted Oswald's words and how he had not demanded they bring Lacie out.

Jack answered that it was because Oswald was not a liar by nature and nor was he subtle. He said that Oswald's words also made it clear why Lacie lied to him that day. He knew she had lied yet believed her anyway. Hearing such a twisted yet pure answer, Glen couldn't help but be amused.

He then told Jack to follow him saying that with Lacie gone, surely Jack held no more interest in the world. He wanted Jack to know why Lacie had to be sacrificed.

Revis explained that the world was in fact being held together by invisible chains so that it would not crumble into the Darkness of the Abyss. Hearing this, Jack asked what would happen if those chains would break. Revis smiled wryly and asked why Jack would ask such a question. The former Glen then told Jack that Oswald was blaming himself for what happened to Lacie not just because he sent her into the abyss but also for the fact that she was born as a child of misfortune. Revis went on to explain the reasoning behind the title of Glen and the sacrifice of the other sibling. Jack thought it was nothing short of torture for the two involved. Revis then mentioned how Oswald did not want to use any excuses that would allow him to move on and instead he chose to shoulder the burden on his own, seeking atonement.

That was when Jack first saw Alice from the tower window. Revis wasted no time in revealing that he had impregnated Lacie before her fall into the Abyss. That was his little experiment which he would not live to see the conclusion of. Revis explained the goal of this experiment to Jack then told him that he would entrust the rest to him and that he was free to use Alice to fulfill his wish. Revis would be watching along with all of the past Glen's.

Jack wasted no time trying to endear the girl to him and introduced himself in an albeit clumsy manner by scaling the tower with his bare hands. He wasn't successful in the least and despite Oswald's protests, Jack landed on his back on the bushes at the foot of the tower. He retorted that he had no other choice since Oswald would not tell him anything about the young girl who was born from Lacie. Hearing the commotion, Alice looked out the window and saw Jack sprawled over the bush on his back. He waved with a friendly smile and introduced himself. Oswald then asked Jack how much Revis had told him. Jack lied and said he had only show him Alice from the bottom of the tower. He then said he didn't even know her name and that he would like it if he heard it from Oswald himself. Now he knew her name and the bond could begin.

Shortly before this, Jack had asked Oswald to come with him to see Lacie with him. This offended Oswald quite a bit and he said it was impossible since Lacie had been disolved into the Darkness of the Abyss and that he would not allow Jack to do anything of the sort either. That was when Jack realized the Oswald he knew was no more. This was the new Glen, the guardian of the Abyss. His enemy. He couldn't let him know about the reason behind Lacie's death or Alice's birth or even worse the experiment and the information Revis had revealed. He would have to ask no questions and to continue living a harmless life. If he would fail, Glen would try to keep him away from the Baskerville. With that Jack hid behind a smiling mask and apologized for saying something so stupid.

Back in the present, Jack promised Oswald that he would not ask why Lacie disappeared or what Alice truly was. In exchange he wanted to watch over the girl alongside Oswald. He claimed it shouldn't be a problem as long as he didn't tell Jack anything. He only wanted to be close to the only thing left of Lacie in the world. This cunning lie seemed to work on Oswald. Of course he would. Jack had tailored it to the man expertly, playing on his subconscious need to find someone who would help him understand and share the burden. Using this weakness, Jack would worm his way through the cracks in his heart and dig up even further information about the Abyss. He REFUSED to accept that there was no way to bring Lacie back.

The day Alice met Jack, her twin in the Abyss recognized the man and asked one of the two rabbit dolls to go back to the real world with the last shard of Lacie's feelings. At the cost of one of the dolls itself, the memory reached Jack. Unfortunately this had a terrible consequence. The memory that was sent was of a day where Oswald and Lacie and Jack had spent a day together on their own in the forest. Lacie was singing that same song once more and Jack asked what it was called. Lacie had answered that it had no name and that Oswald was the one who wrote it. She had merely added the lyrics. Oswald modestly shrugged it off saying that they were welcome to call it what they wished. Jack quickly proposed Lacie's name as the title. He then told the two how over the years since he'd last seen Lacie, he had been constantly comforted by the memory of her singing. That flustered Lacie and said it was fine with her if Oswald didn't mind.

The memory shard continued to show Lacie's turmoil and the final realization that she did not want to be alone. Sadly Jack misinterpreted this and set for himself a new goal. To bring the world to Lacie by throwing it into the Abyss. To do so, Jack grew closer to both Oswald and Alice ultimately using Alice to help him set in motion the sequence of events that would doom the city of Sablier. Once the killing started, Jack confronted Oswald. He asked him to lower his sword since he didn't want to kill a friend. This was of course a lie. Oswald was Glen Baskerville in his eyes, the one person who was most in power to stop his mad scheme. As such he had to be removed. Using the distraction of Gil's desperate intervention to stop the fighting, Jack cut down the child in front of Glen and held his life hostage saying he knew such a wound would not kill his kind. The ground shook and Jack lost his footing. Seeing an opening, Oswald attacked only for him to get slashed and his sword broken. That was when Jack revealed his final trump card. The Chain known as B Rabbit.

This Chain had been made for him by the Will of the Abyss herself. It's purpose was to cut the chains that held the world together and to send it into the abyss so that Lacie would no longer be alone. At the moment however it was simply meant to defeat the one man who was the biggest threat to this plan born of insanity and love bordering on obsession. And to that end it performed flawlessly.

Previous Game History: N/A

Personality: Jack is quite a puzzle to unravel and up to this day, very few have been able to get an inkling of his true nature. On the outside he is a bubbly, flirtatious young man who seems incapable of being too serious about anything. He is polite and well mannered to those he speaks to. He is more than versed in etiquette and the workings of society and it's gatherings. But there is far more to him and the deeper one goes, the more disturbing things become.

Because of his origins he had a very bleak and pessimistic outlook on the world. That however changed once he met Lacie. He found a purpose, something to strive for and to want. In doing so he showed incredible resolve, resorting to any deed both savory and not so much in order to progress up the ranks of society. It is even implied he resorted to prostitution at first. Jack's rise through the social scene is one that has earned him quite the reputation.

There is nothing he will not do to achieve his goal. He learned to play an instrument simply so that he would be able to sneak into a party of the Baskerville in order to see Lacie again. Before this he learned the trade of his family making clocks which is how he made the music box pocket watch that would later be used in one of his schemes.

He has no qualms in using anyone for his benefit and knows just what buttons to push to make people do what he wants while masking his influence entirely. He is ruthless and cold towards those who oppose him and will discard anyone who has outlived their usefulness. Despite his brilliance and cunning he is also very much deluded. He believes that bringing the world into the Abyss, would make sure Lacie is no longer alone in that cold hell. To do this he lied to and deceived everyone he knew. Even when his plan failed during Sablier, he managed to twist history, marking the Baskervilles as the perpetrators of the massacre as well as branding the Nightray as a traitorous family.

Skills and Powers: Primarily Jack does not have any true special ability. That also works to his advantage, giving him an image that allows him to get close to most people with ease. His mind is his greatest weapon, being able to come up with plans and schemes that have spanned across a hundred years. He is quite a skilled clock maker as proven when he made the musicbox pocket watch for Oswald. He is also a fairly decent musician.

Jack can manipulate most people so well that they actually believed they are in fact using him. The Barma family learned this at great cost. He also seems able to handle a sword quite well. This wasn't enough defeat Lacie's brother, Oswald but Jack overcame that weakness as well.

During Sablier, Jack became an illegal contractor and obtained the Chain that would later be know and B Rabbit or the Blood Stained rabbit. This chain was made to cut the Chains that held the world together from collapsing into the Abyss. The Chain manifests as an enormous anthropomorphic rabbit with black fur and armed with an enormous scythe the color of blood. Aside from the scythe itself, the Chain employs, as it's name would entail, chains which are tipped with sharp spikes meant to impale and tear the enemy apart. This Chain is quite similar to the one Lacie used however it is not the same as B Rabbit was made specifically for Jack by the Will of the Abyss.

Items: The Pocket watch: A watch Jack crafted himself with Oswald's aid who in fact supplied the song it plays when opened. The song is titled Lacie.

His second item would be his sword which is freshly stained with the blood of his presumed friend.

Writing samples:
Action: [There is humming off screen of the feed before Jack waltzes into view holding his coat. He seems very absorbed in the act until he turns his eyes to the mirror.]

A ball. That will certainly be a refreshing change of pace. There should be plenty of lovely ladies as well.

[For a moment there is a flicker of sadness in his eyes. There will be charming ladies but not the one he wants the most. This place couldn't bring her as well. No things are never that easy.]

[Suddenly he frowns as he spots something on the sleeve of his green coat.]

Aaaaah!? Noooo! This is not good!

[And quickly rushing to a drawer to rummage through the contents]

Sewing kit sewing kit sewing kit...AHA! Found it!

[He quickly returns to his bed out of sight of the mirror and the humming resumes. It's the same song people might hear when he tends to open that golden pocket watch he always has on his person.]

Third Person Prose:
Pointless. This entire world was pointless. You would think that getting whisked away to another world would change your perspective on things. Not for Jack. Sure there were some exceptions most of which were people like him who had been brought here without their intent. The idea of a dreamworld where anything was possible and here he was wishing to have nothing to do with it. The reason was that the one he wanted the most had not been brought there as well. He'd spent a few days walking around the streets, hoping to catch a glimpse of that flowing black hair or those bright ruby red eyes. It never happened.

Jack flashed his charming smile as two ladies walked past him. They giggled in that sickeningly cute manner Jack so despised. All of them fake. All of them using a mask. Just like him. But what choice did he have? His network of 'friends' and connections was gone. He was stuck in square one and if he wanted to be up to date with everything happening in this place, he needed to know people. Such parties presented the perfect opportunity to do just that.

No matter. He'd crawled up from the dirt once. He could certainly do so again. He had the skills and the determination to do it. In fact he had a better starting point this time and his targets were clear. With that mindset firmly set, Jack joined the festivities. It would be a long and forgettable evening.
